Fialure is a series of limited-edition experiments that seek to expose or explore a particular facet of design, art, and commerce. The studio is based in Oakland, California, and is run by August and Christina Petersen.

Part of a broader study, the experiment launching at OFFSITE explores two polar states of aluminum, from the widely available metal alloy to the mineral-rich clay from which aluminum ore is extracted. Built from off-the-shelf shapes and profiles, the base epitomizes the standardized and commoditized process of contemporary aluminum manufacturing. In contrast, the formed and shaped earthenware top explores the very rudimentary and intimate nature of handmade ceramics.
